How to Spend 4th of July in Style

4th of July Header

Patriotism, BBQs & beach days are some of the things that come to mind when we think of the Fourth of July. With the holiday quickly approaching, you also want to plan the perfect outfit that matches the occasion.  If you want to show your American pride, but don’t want to go overboard, we have a few ideas to help you – with styles you’ll love all summer long!

Classic and casual make for the perfect outfit for a day like the Fourth of July.  From canvas sneakers and slip-ons that are right on trend to a great tote bag to take you from the beach to the BBQ, adding in just a little of the red, white and blue can be a great way to look festive.

You may also want to consider a few top summer styles with a twist for the holiday. For guys, the boat shoe is always a win, however this summer, you may want try canvas! For women, a stylish espadrille is a fun choice and will likely be one of your go-tos for the rest of the summer.

And of course, you may want to show off your colors beyond your shoes. From the perfect V-neck t-shirt to “mix & match” bathing suits or a baseball cap to top off your look, you can really have fun. (Stylist suggestion: Red, white & blue flip-flops are a fun way to add to your beach look!)

If you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate, you can up the ante with a pair of kicks that really celebrate the day. We love these and think they’ll look great paired with pretty much anything from white jeans to shorts all summer long – so you’re not limited to wearing them just for one day.

Thrill of the Grill: What to Wear to a BBQ Party

0523-BBQblogpost_0000_top

Next week is Memorial Day and the unofficial start of summer! One of the best parts about warmer weather is being able to finally spend time outside, and attending (or hosting) a barbecue is a great way to catch up with friends and family and celebrate the season. Not to mention, it’s the perfect opportunity to break out those summer clothes that have been hibernating since last August. Not sure what to wear? Read on for our guide for the ultimate backyard BBQ look.

Boho Lounger

Whether you’re hosting the party or just came for a good time, easy bohemian-inspired pieces are perfect for relaxing outdoors. Navigate the crowd with cool summer elegance in a flowy dress and wide-brimmed hat. Comfy footbed sandals are a good choice if you’re on your feet all night and are totally on-trend.

Backyard Sports

From Cornhole to touch football, you’re looking to take home the annual BBQ trophy. Your outfit shouldn’t hold you back, so take a cue from the athleisure trend and grab your favorite t-shirt and everyday sneakers. Throw on a baseball hat and some comfy shorts  and you’re ready to go.

Pretty and Preppy

You want that polished yet fun vibe, so look no further than canvas sneakers. This pair from Sperry perfectly captures the preppy spirit. A classic button-down in a pastel hue adds sophistication, and a cotton skirt with pockets is clean and cute.

Grill Master

You may be in charge of the cooking, but underneath that apron, your outfit is fresh for summer. Muted colors and stripes feel relaxed and right now, while canvas sneakers let you run around without sacrificing style.

Active Classic

Your team is the reigning champ at whiffle ball, but you don’t want to sweat too much before dinner. A classic look that gives you movement and style is key. Look cool with sneakers from Lacoste, and add a touch of polish with a leather watch.

Crowd Pleaser

You dress to impress. Schmoozing friends and family, you already know everyone’s drink order. Boat shoes are your summer staple, and an off-white pair is perfect for transitioning from sand to soiree. A zip-up sweatshirt is great to throw on over a button down once it gets cooler at night.

Whether you’re backyard BBQ hopping or just looking to freshen up your summer wardrobe, kick off summer in style!

How to Style Booties for Warmer Weather

BLOG_mood_nocopy

Booties have become a go-to style for fall and winter, but you can really rock your favorites all year long. We’ve rounded up some of our favorites and have a few ideas on how to wear booties for spring and summer.

The classic bootie style is a great addition to any wardrobe, and is one you’ll find yourself wearing from the time the first flowers are shooting up until the leaves are crunching beneath your fabulously dressed feet. These styles look great with leggings or tights in the cooler weather, but also bring a little edge to your fashion game in the warmer months when paired with an airy dress, white jeans or denim cutoffs. So if you’ve already got a pair in your closet – don’t pack them away for the summer!

This season, we’re seeing a lot of open toes, texture and fantastic block heels, which means you can personalize your look with the right pair. From softer floral cutouts to perforated details, there’s no shortage of options. Pair with cropped pants or a tailored skirt for the office, or throw on your favorite skinny jeans (cuffed to show a little ankle for the season, of course) and a t-shirt for a go-anywhere weekend look. We also love pairing a crisp denim skirt with this style for a sleek work option.

Take your booties out with you at night – these looks are perfect for a girls’ night out, a date night, or for whenever you want to feel extra fabulous. From rich suedes and lace-up details to stacked wooden heels, you can style these boots just like you would your favorite pair of pumps!

Already rocking your booties this season? Share your spring style with us @shoebuydotcom on Instagram with #myshoebuy.

How to: Make Comfort Cute

teenvogueheaderv3

Here at ShoeBuy, we are firm believers that comfort and style can exist in the same shoe. Our friends at Teen Vogue seem to agree. In the March 2016 issue, the story “The New Normal” explores the endless styling possibilities with normcore pieces (specifically shoes) or as they call them, “Refined versions of the everyday staples.” Read on to view the shoot, and click the images to shop your favorites at ShoeBuy!

As we all know, Birkenstocks are no longer just hippie shoes – with celebrities and fashionistas rocking the look, every shoe wardrobe needs a pair. The comfortable footbed is perfect for any activity, even if it’s just meeting up with some friends for the afternoon or for walking around town. The Boston (left) is a great transitional clog that will be perfect for spring. The Arizona (right center) is the classic sandal to replace your old flip-flops. Upgrade! They look great with everything from distressed jeans to an airy maxi dress.

Clarks is known for their craftsmanship and their comfortable shoes, but this season, their trendy options are really catching our eye. The Wallabee (left) originated as a men’s shoe, but is now also made for women and kids. Menswear-inspired shoes are huge this spring, so why not buy some that you can actually wear all day? Rock them with long funky socks if you’re daring!

Crocs are seriously comfortable shoes – you’ll never want to take them off! They are also waterproof, ideal for all sorts of outdoor adventures. Plus, the Classic Clogs come in just about every color you can think of, so you can show off your personal style with a bright pop of color. Take a cue from Teen Vogue and pair them with a cool skirt. The brand carries other styles with the same classic look, so be sure to check out the whole collection!

We think comfy shoes have more staying power than most footwear trends because, well – your feet will thank you. How do you wear normcore?

How To: Pack For Spring Break Like A Pro (and without checking a bag!)

Blog-Featured-Spring-Break-0222-V1

The winter season can be long and cold; luckily, there’s a beacon of light that promises sunshine and warmth to get you through: spring break. Whether your idea of a hot getaway involves undisturbed hours lounging seaside or spicy salsa dancing into the wee hours of the morning, there are a few essentials every spring breaker should bring along. Here, we’ve rounded up the must-haves for your next trip, and cover everything you’ll need both in the air and on the shore.

Take-Off

After picking a destination, perhaps the most important decision you’ll have to make when planning a vacation (assuming you’re flying) is whether or not to check a bag. Word to the wise: don’t! Airlines lose luggage all the time. Do yourself a favor and avoid a potential headache by opting for a carry-on that can hold all the essentials. A cosmetic case will also come in handy not only while traveling, but also once you arrive. Keep things organized in your home away from home with a hanging bag or store small toiletries and accessories like sunblock and sunglasses in a waterproof case while you’re down at the pool or beach. If you do choose to carry-on though, just be sure to remember the 3-1-1 Liquids Rule!

High Tide

Another reason you should skip the big suitcase? Everything you really need for a tropical vacation is compact. You’ll practically be living in your bathing suit anyway, and small accessories like sunglasses and hats can either be worn while traveling or packed in a large tote that can double as both your personal item and beach bag!

Tiki Time

Of course some real clothing will be worn occasionally while on vacation, so opt for pieces that can transition from day to night. A romper is the perfect choice for her – breathable and easy to wear, it’s easy to throw on over a bikini or dress up with your favorite jewelry for an evening out. Guys should look for lightweight materials as well and have some fun with island prints and colors!

A lot of prep goes into going away, and the last thing you want to be thinking about at 35,000 feet is if your luggage is going to make it. Whether you choose to carry-on instead or not, don’t procrastinate: make a list of the items you’ll really need – chances are, they’ll all be able to fit in the overhead compartment!

Resort Wear: A Guide to Packing Light

Blog-Resort-Wear-FeaturedImage-020116

Close your eyes and picture yourself on vacation: white sand, crashing waves, the sun on your shoulder. Now imagine yourself packing for this vacation: a little less blissful, wouldn’t you say? Preparing to go away shouldn’t be stressful, but especially when you’re planning for kids, maybe a significant other, and yourself, it’s hard not to freak out a little. What’s more, with so many airlines charging fees for additional baggage, taking only what’s absolutely necessary is key. To take some of the worry out of packing, we’ve compiled the ShoeBuy Guide to Packing Light – so sit back, don’t panic, and soon enough, you’ll be sipping piña coladas poolside.

Shoes can become the bane of any packing existence. Start down the path of “but what if the weather is XYZ” or “but what if I want to wear this top with those pants” and you might as well pull out your credit card now to pay for the overweight luggage charges. In reality, the average adult going on vacation only needs to bring three pairs of shoes, maximum: one for everyday wear (think: slip-on or thong sandals for walking about the resort and to and from the pool/beach), one for slightly fancier occasions (think: boat shoes or wedge sandals for dinner out at a restaurant), and one for activities (think: footbed sandals like Birkenstock for a long walk or city excursion).

Clothing can also be tricky since many vacation destinations – resorts, cruise ships, etc. – enforce dress codes. Opt for pieces you can re-wear over a statement look that you might only put on once. Every woman knows the power of a wrinkle-resistant dress on vacation, so be sure to pack at least one that can easily go from day to night. Beach pants can work double duty when paired with a bold printed one-piece, while an airy caftan will make any lady feel like island royalty. Pack a straw tote as your carry-on with all the essentials so you’ll be prepared both in the sky and by the sea. For guys, breathable materials like linen and cotton are always good choices, as you’ll stay cool even while abiding by the collared shirt rule at dinner. A light t-shirt, hat, and sunglasses will keep you from getting too much sun during the day, and of course, don’t forget your swim trunks

Believe it or not, kids need even less when it comes to footwear on vacation: just one pair of active sandals for day, and slightly dressier (but still practical) shoes for night. And the same rules as mom and dad apply for clothing – breathable, no frill pieces that provide some protection from the sun will put everyone’s minds at ease.

Vacation should be a time of relaxation, so don’t let preparing for it stress you out. A little strategic packing can go a long way, so think about what you and your family really need and plan accordingly – and just think, less stuff in your luggage now means more room for souvenirs later!

How To: Clean Sheepskin Boots

Blog-Sheepskin-Featured-Image-2-111615

A pair of sheepskin boots can be your best friend in the winter; they’re warm and never seem to go out of style. Another great feature is that a well-made pair should give you several seasons of wear, as long as you properly care for them. Whether you’re looking to give an old pair a second life or hoping for a new set under the tree this year, here’s are some tips to take care of your boots so they stay looking as good as they feel.

OUR FAVORITES:

Of course, prior to any kind of treatment, you’ll want to read the manufacturer’s care instructions for your particular pair of boots, as well as the directions for whichever products you’re planning to use.

PROTECT:

      1. Before wearing your boots, prevent staining by first treating them with a sheepskin protector, like the UGG® Stain and Water Repellant.
      1. Be sure your boots are dry and wipe off any residue before applying. Take them outside (or to a well-ventilated area) and spray the protector evenly over sheepskin with until boot is wet, but not soaked.
      1. Let your boots dry out of direct sunlight in in a cool, ventilated space for 24 hours.
      1. Use a suede brush (often included in a sheepskin care kit) and lightly brush the nap in one direction.

 RESTORE:

      1. Lightly dampen your boots with clean water and a sponge. Apply a small amount of conditioner, such as the UGG® Cleaner and Conditioner, to the wet sponge. Gently scrub the surface of your boot. When finished, use a clean, damp sponge to remove excess residue.
      1. To speed up the drying process and help your boots maintain their shape, stuff with paper, then allow them to dry naturally for at least 24 hours in a cool, ventilated space. Avoid direct sunlight or heat.
      1. Now that your boots are nice and clean, this is a great time to protect them from future wear and tear by treating them with a sheepskin protector.

FRESHEN:

      1. Eliminate odor by spraying the inside of each boot with a sheepskin freshener, also often included in a sheepskin care kit.
      1. Let boots dry naturally for at least 24 hours in a cool, ventilated space. Avoid direct sunlight or heat.
      1. Once dry, lightly brush in same direction to ensure your boots look their best.

OTHER CARE TIPS:

• NEVER put your boots in the washing machine or dryer
• DON’T take them to the dry cleaner
• BE SURE to take the same kind of care of other garments and accessories made with sheepskin or shearling, like bags and hats!

Try to make this cleaning regimen a regular habit, and remember to wipe off daily dirt, especially during the winter months to remove snow that may have been treated with salt. Don’t be daunted; this may sound time-consuming, but taking care of your boots is actually pretty quick to do with the right tools on hand, and so well worth it in the long run.

Comfort-COOP-BLOG

When it comes to foot pain, we know the drill: little by little, you begin to trade in the pair of shoes you love to look at for something more comfortable, and we don’t blame you.
