Now Trending: Rain Gear

Now-Trending-700x400-041215

With the arrival of April, spring showers are upon us. We understand that the earth needs nourishment for May flowers, but the struggles of walking in a downpour with a broken umbrella is enough to dampen anyone’s day (literally). So, as Mother Nature prepares to rain down on many regions, we’ve picked out our favorite gear to keep you stylish and protected from the puddles and downpours.

Boots
Durability is certainly the main factor when selecting rain boots. Whether you want to brighten up a gloomy day with colorful rain boots or keep it simple in a classic pair, we have your perfect match.

Let’s start with style. Knee-high rain boots or wellingtons are always a good choice. They’ll give you more coverage for blustery days and you can wear them with skirts or tuck in your pants (be sure to check the circumference of your chosen style before you order so you know what options will work for you). While the go-to dark-colored solids are always in style, you may want to consider a pop of color or a pattern to make getting dressed for rainy days anything but boring. If you prefer a rain shoe or low boot, there are lots of varieties here too. We’ve rounded up a few styles we’ve got our eye on for the season below.

Jackets
100% chance of rain for the next week? Bring.It.On. Our roundup of rain jackets will have you walking into your destination as if the sun were shining – stylish, dry, and ready for what ever your day entails. When choosing a rain jacket, there are a few features to keep in mind. Waterproof and water-resistant do not mean the same thing, so if you want true protection – be sure you opt for “waterproof.” You also want to consider the length of the jacket: do you prefer a jacket that comes to your hip or covers to mid-thigh or below?

Accessories
If the wind permits, an umbrella is a must have for a rainy day, but it can also help you show off your style. Add flare to a subdued outfit with a patterned umbrella, or keep it sleek and simple with a solid color. Either way, a functional umbrella is a smart accessory to have on hand, and don’t forget the mini to stow in your bag just in case.

NOW TRENDING: Athleisure

Blog-Featured-Image-Athleisure-3

If you haven’t heard of the term “athleisure” you’re probably not alone. But if you’ve ever worn your favorite yoga or workout-wear with no gym in sight, you may be rocking this look already. So what exactly is athleisure? The trend started to gain popularity last year and it isn’t losing any momentum yet. What may have started off with yoga pants becoming part of many women’s go-to casual wardrobes, it now includes everything from patterned yoga leggings and wrap sweaters to pretty much any chic sportswear that you’d opt to wear beyond the gym.

Comfort is certainly a main factor driving this trend. Well-made, well-fitting sportswear can be very flattering, and also be easily paired with other items from your closet to create a range of casual outfits. While we’ll always see the traditional yoga pants and tank tops, we’re also seeing lots of great street style too, like leggings paired with a comfy sweater or tunic and a fab pair of booties.

When to Wear it?
If you’re going from one end of the day where you might be up early, packing lunches and getting the kids off to school, then trying to squeeze in a few hours of work from your home office before meeting a friend for a quick coffee or to run an errand, this look can take you through the day. With the right pieces, you can be ready for (nearly) anything on the weekend: brunch, shopping, errands, visiting family and friends…you get the idea. That said, you’ll have to use your judgment on if you can pull it off for work.

How to Wear it?
Casual clothing that feels put-together is always in style. These days, yoga clothing in particular goes beyond the traditional yoga pants with leggings, wrap tops and sweaters, so there are lots of options from brands like Lucy and Prana to try. Plus, with details  from contoured stitching and asymmetrical silhouettes to bright colors and patterns, there are plenty of ways to wear this trend. (Though don’t get us wrong, we think every woman should have a go-to pair of yoga pants in her closet, too.) Really, great athleisure pieces will pair well with other clothes in your wardrobe. With the right accessories like a scarf or a fun statement necklace, you can really elevate the look and you’ll feel like you have a finished outfit, whether or not the gym is on your agenda for the day.

Building the Look
A great go-anywhere look can be as simple as pairing yoga capris or leggings with a tunic or long oxford, finished off with the right touches and you can go from errands to meeting up with friends. For this look, we like the Lucy Hatha Capri Legging for a great fitting pant, topped with the lightweight, organic cotton Prana Leta Tunic. Add spring in your step with the Earthies Manza for heel to toe support and finish the look with a handmade Henri Lou leather and metal bracelet.

Play with Color and Pattern
You can also build a colorful outfit with a few easy pieces. Try mixing patterned bottoms like the Prana Maison Knicker with a solid-color, classic silhouette on top, like the Royal Robbins Breeze Thru. Finish off with a great flat – we love the Merrell Mimix Haze for spring – to bring together a minimalist look with just the right amount of detail and personality.

Now Trending: Fringe

Fringe Now Trending
Starting earlier this year, we’ve been watching one of our favorite trends gain momentum. Ladies, we’re happy to report that fringe for the winter is in and we’re here to help you make your fashion statement. No longer just for bohemian looks, it’s really up to you how much or how little you want to work in. We recommend starting with a great boot or playing with fringe on bags, but you can even layer on with a fringed scarf. Take a look at  some of our favorite fringe items for the season.

Shoes are, of course, our favorite way to dabble with fringe:

Now Trending: Oxblood

Now Trending: color of the season Oxblood

Sometimes to follow seasonal trends, you practically need to change out your wardrobe. That’s why when a color comes to the forefront as a must-have, we get very excited. This season’s IT color is oxblood. (Don’t get hung up on the name of the color – think of it as maroon, burgundy, wine or deep red with a twist.) The especially exciting part: this color looks great on nearly everyone.

HOW TO WEAR OXBLOOD
Though, you can go head to toe too with the color if you like, of course, we suggest playing with a pop of the color to freshen up your wardrobe and give yourself even more versatility.

  • A Bag:A great satchel is always needed and is a great way to play with color for the season (and beyond). Shop one of our fave bags: THE SAK Mariposa Satchel
  • Outer Layer: Adding a rich color to your outer layer will keep you on trend on the go. This Marmot Thea Jacket is the perfect piece.
  • Accessories: Don’t forget the details, you can always add in a great accessory to get the look. This studded bracelet does the trick!
  • Shoes: Our suggestions wouldn’t be complete without fantastic shoes. Try choosing a classic silhouette to ensure you’ll still want to wear them after the seasons change. Here’s a great option: BCBG Max Azria Acrobat
