Looking Back: Top 10 Shoe Styles of 2015 for Him & Her

Blog-LookingBack-Featured-1

2015 was a good year for footwear. While new styles gained fashion ground, older looks reemerged as cool comeback kids. So what better way to ring out the old and usher in the new than to take a walk down shoe memory lane? Here, we’ve compiled the top 10 styles of 2015 for both him and her, as chosen by you, our trendy ShoeBuyers!

Him:

Shoes for guys in 2015 meant business. Oxfords and loafers boasting clean lines and sharp details were all the rage, and easily transitioned from day to night, board to bar room. More men also began to embrace updated boot styles like chukka and Chelsea, while certain tried-and-trues, like Timberland’s PRO series, maintained their rightful top-ranking positions. Athletic shoes, from running sneakers to hiking shoes and hiking boots, were also popular, with brands such as Brooks and Merrell leading the pack.

Her:

The real star of 2015 shoe trends for women was the bootie. With its shorter, versatile design, gals of all ages embraced this fashion phenomenon. Sneakers, athletic and those of the slip-on and canvas varieties, were also popular, as athleisure became increasingly prevalent as a look in and of itself. Boots, including duck boots, classic UGG® and Sorel® favorites and riding boots remained cool weather staples, while oldie-but-goodie brands like Birkenstock and Dr. Martens reminded us that quality never goes out of style.

So there you have it: 2015 in shoes. Be sure to check back in the next few days as we take a look at upcoming trends for 2016!

We’d love to hear from you – which trend do you love best? Any from past years you wish would come back or hope to never see again? Share your favorite look or most embarrassing shoe faux pas story in the comments below!

Blog-Featured-Image-Gift-Guide-Splurge-120115

We all have that special someone on our holiday shopping list – whether it’s a significant other, best friend, or a close family member. And for this person, giving an awesome present is even more exciting than getting one. So if you’re looking to splurge a little this season, check out these ideas that are sure to get a gasp on Christmas morning. And remember, we’ve put together gift guides for every budget that are full of ideas that they’re bound to love!

1. BOOTS

You just can’t go wrong with a pair of well-made boots. In fact, they’re scientifically proven to never go out of style (okay, we may be using the term “scientifically” loosely here, but we believe it!). Whether for fashion or function, leather boots are a must-have in every closet, so spruce up theirs with a luxurious pair that promises to last.

2. WINTER JACKET

Understandably, a lot of us find ourselves skipping out on that amazing parka that may last a lifetime and opting for a less expensive coat that needs replacing every season, so this year, consider giving them the gift of a warm investment. Look for classic silhouettes in neutral tones that they’ll never get bored of – a great winter jacket is the gift that keeps on giving year after year.

3. BLING

Show them just how special they are to you with a little extra something that sparkles. As the saying goes, good things come in small packages, and they won’t be able to contain their excitement as they tear this one open.

4. FRESH KICKS

We’re not playing around here; a cool pair of sneakers may just be the most coveted present under the tree. So run, don’t walk, to get some for the flyest on your list. This year, materials like suede and leather are all the rage, quite possibly making their feet the most fashionable part of an ensemble.

5. BAG

Whether for work or play, a nice bag makes travel or an everyday commute easier, not to mention, more fashionable. For the trendsetter, spring for a hot style – like canvas or fringe – or keep it classic with an essential leather tote or duffel.

6. House Warmers

Don’t see something that quite fits? A thoughtful gift for the home will help to make memories for holidays and years to come, and is a great option for the couples on your list.

Keep an eye out for more great gift ideas throughout the month of December!

How To: Clean Sheepskin Boots

Blog-Sheepskin-Featured-Image-2-111615

A pair of sheepskin boots can be your best friend in the winter; they’re warm and never seem to go out of style. Another great feature is that a well-made pair should give you several seasons of wear, as long as you properly care for them. Whether you’re looking to give an old pair a second life or hoping for a new set under the tree this year, here’s are some tips to take care of your boots so they stay looking as good as they feel.

OUR FAVORITES:

Featured Products: UGG Bailey Bow Tall Boot Big Kids | UGG Foerster Boot | UGG Bailey Bow Wool Boot | UGG Classic Toddler

Of course, prior to any kind of treatment, you’ll want to read the manufacturer’s care instructions for your particular pair of boots, as well as the directions for whichever products you’re planning to use.

PROTECT:

      1. Before wearing your boots, prevent staining by first treating them with a sheepskin protector, like the UGG® Stain and Water Repellant.
      1. Be sure your boots are dry and wipe off any residue before applying. Take them outside (or to a well-ventilated area) and spray the protector evenly over sheepskin with until boot is wet, but not soaked.
      1. Let your boots dry out of direct sunlight in in a cool, ventilated space for 24 hours.
      1. Use a suede brush (often included in a sheepskin care kit) and lightly brush the nap in one direction.

 RESTORE:

      1. Lightly dampen your boots with clean water and a sponge. Apply a small amount of conditioner, such as the UGG® Cleaner and Conditioner, to the wet sponge. Gently scrub the surface of your boot. When finished, use a clean, damp sponge to remove excess residue.
      1. To speed up the drying process and help your boots maintain their shape, stuff with paper, then allow them to dry naturally for at least 24 hours in a cool, ventilated space. Avoid direct sunlight or heat.
      1. Now that your boots are nice and clean, this is a great time to protect them from future wear and tear by treating them with a sheepskin protector.

FRESHEN:

      1. Eliminate odor by spraying the inside of each boot with a sheepskin freshener, also often included in a sheepskin care kit.
      1. Let boots dry naturally for at least 24 hours in a cool, ventilated space. Avoid direct sunlight or heat.
      1. Once dry, lightly brush in same direction to ensure your boots look their best.

OTHER CARE TIPS:

• NEVER put your boots in the washing machine or dryer
• DON’T take them to the dry cleaner
• BE SURE to take the same kind of care of other garments and accessories made with sheepskin or shearling, like bags and hats!

Featured Products: UGG HEritage Up Flat Hat w/Pom | Scully Garment Bag Antique Lambskin 603 | Dije California Trooper Hat

Try to make this cleaning regimen a regular habit, and remember to wipe off daily dirt, especially during the winter months to remove snow that may have been treated with salt. Don’t be daunted; this may sound time-consuming, but taking care of your boots is actually pretty quick to do with the right tools on hand, and so well worth it in the long run.

GIFT GUIDE: Stylish Comfort (How to do Athleisure Right)

Athleisure-Blog-Header-111115
Everyone loves to be comfortable. But (thankfully) gone are the days of jogging suits and baggy sweats and hoodies that made you feel like you could only ever wear your comfortable clothes within the confines of your home – or on a college campus. Thanks to a magnificent trend known as “athleisure” there are options out there for you to wear whether you’re on your way to the gym, or whether you’re headed out to meet up with friends for brunch.

So, we’ve pulled together a few of our favorite looks so you can help those you love look great while being comfortable. In fact, we’re pretty sure, these picks will make even the choosiest happy and cozy.

For Her:

Keep in mind that you don’t have to work out to rock a great pair of yoga pants or leggings; these are great wardrobe staples that can just as easily pair well with a wrap or tunic when she’s heading to run errands or to class, as they can with a workout tank for her next hot yoga session. So whether the woman on your gift list is an athlete or just likes to look great, don’t shy away from these styles.

Featured Products: lucy Everyday Pant | Icebreaker Bliss Wrap | lucy Crossback Tank | Skechers GOwalk 3 Strike Walking Shoe | Sherpani Force Yoga Gym Duffel

Featured Products: Prana Prism Capri | Be Up Freestyle Jacket | THE SAK Pack Gym Duffel | Manduka PROlite 71

For Him

Keeping things simple is a great way to go, but a few tailored accents can elevate the t-shirt and sweatpants look to something he can wear out and about, even after he hits the gym (or just aspires to!).  A well-made t-shirt will stand the test of time and many wash cycles, so look for great quality shirts that also bring a little personality to the table. As for tailoring, we’re not suggesting you need to pair with a suit jacket – but rather, look for jersey and materials with style details like great pockets or a zip-up sweater that is just as comfortable as his old favorite hoodie. He’ll look great when he’s lounging – or on the go, and any of these items will be a welcome gift under the tree – after all, he likely has all the ties he’ll ever need.

Featured Products: Prana Sutra Pant | New Balance MT53081 Short Sleeve Heather Tech Tee | Patagonia Better Sweater 1/4 Zip | OGIO Flex Form F3 | Saucony Jazz Original Sneaker

So whether you’re out taking a stroll this winter, or just relaxing in your home, remember that comfort is always a must!

Tips for Creating the Perfect Holiday Look

Blog-Holiday-Featured-Image-111815

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, chances are you already have a holiday party or two marked on the calendar. From family gatherings and work occasions to concerts and school pageants, this season of celebration can become a whirlwind, and the last place you want to find yourself on a Saturday night is standing in front of your closet thinking, “I have nothing to wear.”  We’ve all been there: tired of last year’s looks or just feeling fashionably uninspired. So as you gear up for all the hoopla, keep these styling tips in mind and make picking your party outfit part of the fun.

Looks for Her

Featured Products: Jessica Elliot Tassel Necklace | Ibex Ferryn Dress | Vince Camuto Leila Clutch | HEET Rock Bracelet Antique Gold Boa Copper | Isola Eleni II Pump | Patagonia Ahnya Wrap | Casual Barn CJE014 | Frye Heidi Fringe Crossbody | Prana Trinity Cord Pant |  Vince Camuto Sabria Ankle Boot

For a fancy night out, you can never go wrong with a black dress. Make your tried-and-true LBD feel new with a show-stopping pair of pumps and glamorous accessories from top to bottom.

For a more casual party look, pair your favorite skinny jeans or cords with a neutral top (black, white, cream), and then give your outfit some holiday cheer with a dazzling pair of earrings and fabulous heeled booties.

Looks for Him

Featured Products: Nau Alined Long Sleeve Shirt | Pendleton Whisperwool Muffler | Cufflinks Inc Stainless Steel Soft Rectangle Infinity Cufflinks | Icebreaker Seeker Pant | Nunn Bush Rawson Chukka | Tommy Bahama New Eversuede Half Zip | Trafalgar Hayden | Ozone Fair Isle Crew Sock | Tommy Bahama Coastal Island Standard | Steve Madden Scripps Slip-On

This season, keep it slick with stripes and tailored slacks. A pair of classic, black leather chukkas always add polish, and elegant details like silver cufflinks and a wool scarf make a tasteful style statement.

Whether gathered around the family dinner table or catching up with old friends while you’re all back in town, show your relaxed sophistication with a pair of dark jeans that can easily be dressed up or down. A seasonal sweater, slip-ons, and the right, subtle accessories like festive socks and a leather belt will take the style factor up a notch, making your go-to outfit a cool, comfortable choice.

‘Tis the season to eat, drink, and be merry! Don’t let finding something to wear bring you down; chances are, there’s something in your closet right now that just needs a little sprucing up.

So now that we’ve got that all covered, it might be time to start thinking about finding the perfect gift for that friend who’s always so tricky to buy for… we can help with that, too.

GIFT GUIDE: For the Traveler

Blog-Header-Gift-of-Luggage

When it comes to the holidays, luggage may not always be on the top of your checklist. But with the coming weeks being among the heaviest for travel – from grandma’s or the in-laws to a family getaway someplace warmer – maybe it should be. Luggage is also a great gift idea: for the college student who may be getting ready to graduate, for the business traveler in your life, for the trendsetting teen who needs a go-to weekend bag, and even for the kiddos. We’ve rounded up some of our team’s favorite picks to help inspire a great gift for someone on your gift list or to help you pack up in style for your next getaway.

For the Light Packer

We all know (and likely envy) this traveler. They can fit what they’ll need for days in their carryon and not think twice about waiting at the baggage carousel. For this person, or for the person you want to give a great, smaller bag to so they are more organized on their next adventure, daytrip or cross country, a backpack or lightweight rolling bag will fit their travel style. Look for bags with enough compartments so they can easily access a few key essentials, like a water bottle or sunglasses. And be sure to look at bag measurements: you want to pick a bag that can indeed fly as a carry-on.

For the Busy Traveler

Whether on the go for work or play, this person needs function and durability. If you or the traveler on your gift list is more work-centric, a bag that is designed to carry a suit or business clothes will help keep their business clothes in the best shape so they may actually have a few minutes to enjoy the view, rather than having to iron on their next trip. If your busy wayfarer is on the go for leisure, look for features like expandability (so they have room to pick up a souvenir or two) and portability – a lightweight, easily-wheelable bag is key.

For Weekend Getaways

You’ve booked that perfect weekend trip or your plan to and you just can’t wait to go. Armed with a great bag, packing doesn’t have to be a chore. Pick a bag that helps show your personality and is big enough for what you really need – you don’t want to have to lug around a giant suitcase if you’re off on a quick trip. And since everyone could use a great bag like this for quick trips, it really works for so many people on your list – and with tons of options in style and color to choose from, you can really make this a personal present.

For Teens, Tweens, and Little Ones

Every traveler needs a bag of their own, no matter how old they are (even if just to go to Grandma’s once in a while), to make their trip feel special. Teens and tweens are notoriously tricky to pick out gifts for, but a great bag is something they can likely use – for slumber parties at a friend’s house to a family vacation, and even for those gearing up for college tours. Fun patterns and fresh styles will make packing much smoother if they have a bag they actually want to be seen in public with. For the little ones, know they’ll get excited to pack their stuff into a bag that shows off one of their favorite movies or characters.

For the Trendsetting Teen or Tween:

Accessorize Your Travel Style

Travel is easier when you’re prepared, so don’t forget to think about the little things – which by the way, make for great (easily wrapped) gifts and stocking stuffers. From cosmetic bags and pouches to keep what’s inside your bag in order, to colorful luggage that will make their suitcase recognizable, we’ve pulled a few of our favorites together to make your holiday travel and gifting a little easier.
