How to: Make Comfort Cute

teenvogueheaderv3

Here at ShoeBuy, we are firm believers that comfort and style can exist in the same shoe. Our friends at Teen Vogue seem to agree. In the March 2016 issue, the story “The New Normal” explores the endless styling possibilities with normcore pieces (specifically shoes) or as they call them, “Refined versions of the everyday staples.” Read on to view the shoot, and click the images to shop your favorites at ShoeBuy!

As we all know, Birkenstocks are no longer just hippie shoes – with celebrities and fashionistas rocking the look, every shoe wardrobe needs a pair. The comfortable footbed is perfect for any activity, even if it’s just meeting up with some friends for the afternoon or for walking around town. The Boston (left) is a great transitional clog that will be perfect for spring. The Arizona (right center) is the classic sandal to replace your old flip-flops. Upgrade! They look great with everything from distressed jeans to an airy maxi dress.

Clarks is known for their craftsmanship and their comfortable shoes, but this season, their trendy options are really catching our eye. The Wallabee (left) originated as a men’s shoe, but is now also made for women and kids. Menswear-inspired shoes are huge this spring, so why not buy some that you can actually wear all day? Rock them with long funky socks if you’re daring!

Crocs are seriously comfortable shoes – you’ll never want to take them off! They are also waterproof, ideal for all sorts of outdoor adventures. Plus, the Classic Clogs come in just about every color you can think of, so you can show off your personal style with a bright pop of color. Take a cue from Teen Vogue and pair them with a cool skirt. The brand carries other styles with the same classic look, so be sure to check out the whole collection!

We think comfy shoes have more staying power than most footwear trends because, well – your feet will thank you. How do you wear normcore?

Spring Preview

Blog-Featured-SpringPreview-0307-V1

Spring is right around the corner, which means it’s almost time to trade in those snow boots for something airier. Whether your style is laid-back or glitzy, we’ve got everything to make those cold, dark winter days seem long gone. We’ve already shared our favorite shoe trends for 2016, many of which you can get a head start wearing as the days start to get warmer, but now we want to share some of our buyers’ favorites for the season.

Love your flat espadrilles and wish you could wear them with more than jeans and a t-shirt? Well you’re in luck. This casual silhouette has increased not only in popularity over the past few seasons, but also in height and style, becoming this spring’s obvious choice whether you’re meeting girlfriends for brunch or going on a date.

Add a little sass to your springtime wardrobe with a pair of cage or lace-up sandals that are sure to stand out. Go full out with a laced-up look that goes to mid-calf or subtly embrace the trend with a pair that ends at the ankle; either way, there are lots of fun options to try this season.

It’s true: we adore slides. They’re fashionably practical and transition from day to night faster than post-work cocktails. What’s not to love? Plus, this season’s favorites play with texture and color, so you may find yourself grabbing a few pairs.

The Switzerland of booties, these neutral numbers are exactly what our closets have been missing all this time. The range of warm suedes will keep you right on trend, and be sure to look for cutouts and open toes for styles so you’ll be able to transition right through the milder weather.

City sandals are perfect for the girl on the go. Featuring a lower, block heel, you’ll have support and style no matter where you’re headed. With suede, metallic, and lace-up options to choose from, you can even play with a few of this season’s trends at once.

“P” is the letter of the season, and by that we mean printed pumps. So pick your poison: stripes and floral and snakeskin are all hot for spring and will really up your style game.

Clogs, platforms, flatforms… the 70s are back, baby. Can you dig it? This time, these styles feature rich leathers and lots of great details – not to mention, more comfortable soles!

Maybe you were always an athlete or maybe you were always the last kid picked for dodge ball. Doesn’t matter – now, everyone can channel their inner all-star with these cool athletic inspired kicks.

Good news for your feet! Now more than ever, fashion and comfort are like peaches and cream. A pair of footbed sandals is bound to become your weekend go-to whether you’re running errands or spending a day at the park.

April showers bring May flowers, so prepare for those dreary days with a colorful pair of rain boots to brighten things up.

Of course, nothing says “fresh” like a new bag to update your entire look. Opt for a hobo bag or backpack as your everyday tote and pick a smaller crossbody bag to complete your night/weekend ensemble.

Small changes to your wardrobe can make a big difference, so do some spring-cleaning and get rid of those scratched up sunglasses – then replace them with one of these fabulous frames to benefit both your eye and fashion health.

March 20th can’t come soon enough, and we’re ready to usher in the new season in style. Are you?

Spotlight: Fashion Sneakers

Blog-Spring-Sneakers-Featured-v2

The athleisure trend has been catching steam in recent years, and this spring it’s stronger than ever. One of the biggest (and easiest) parts of this trend to adopt is sneakers. However, there are so many types of fashion sneakers that it can get overwhelming. We’ve narrowed it down for you and picked some of our favorite styles.

Slip-ons are a great starting point for fashion sneakers, especially if you don’t usually wear running shoes outside of the gym. They don’t have the typical athletic feel: no laces, smooth soles etc., but they have better traction than your standard work flats. These pair well with pants and dresses alike, and add a structured element to any outfit.

Classic canvas sneakers are a staple in everyone’s wardrobe. In fact, you probably had some growing up. Brands like Vans and Superga are typically the first that come to mind when we think of canvas shoes. Their instantly recognizable styles are the perfect where-with-everything shoe that work for spring and summer. Go for something bolder like this striped Merrell canvas/leather sneaker. You’ll get the same comfort and ease, but with a luxe twist.

Fashion bloggers everywhere turn to retro sneaker styles to wear with everything. From jeans to skirts to dress pants and more. Try a crisp white pair for a minimalist look, or take a modern approach to the retro trend with pink and grey. These New Balance WL555s come in a variety of colors that will look cool with an open coat now, and with shorts and a t-shirt later.

For the inner sk8r girl in all of us. High-tops give off a slightly edgier vibe, but can still be clean-cut. They are also great for the chillier weather, because they cover just a few more inches of the ankle. For an unexpected look, wear these with more feminine pieces, like a skirt and sweater.

Come spring, when everything is fresh and new again, clean preppy sneakers just feel right. A bright white pair fits the bill, with minimal details and a simple shape. Look for leather, suede, or even canvas to achieve this look. Neutral or muted colors make this trend polished, and bring sophistication to your wardrobe.

White soles are appearing everywhere this year. Dress shoes, sandals, and sneakers have all adopted this striking stripe. Even with more relaxed sneakers, the white sole adds a sportier feel and is perfect for the athleisure trend. The white sole also brightens up the shoe, making an otherwise dark colored shoe feel more appropriate for spring.

Every sneaker addict knows that high-tops are essential. With street style becoming ever more popular, every shoe brand now has their own version of this casual option. Try a pair with luxe leather detailing to elevate your go-to jeans and tee ensemble.  This pair of converse is lined with shearling, so it’s perfect for the chilly transitional weather between winter and spring.

Throwback sneakers are a huge part of the sneaker trend. Whether you choose a style that actually originated years ago, or a modern shoe that was inspired by the older version,  with today’s clothes they feel fresh. Suede details and muted colors feel very 70’s, while white with primary colors feel 80’s. Pick your decade, and have fun with it!

Whatever your style, we have the stylish sneakers to up your outfit game. This spring, fashion is comfortable.

How To: Pack For Spring Break Like A Pro (and without checking a bag!)

Blog-Featured-Spring-Break-0222-V1

The winter season can be long and cold; luckily, there’s a beacon of light that promises sunshine and warmth to get you through: spring break. Whether your idea of a hot getaway involves undisturbed hours lounging seaside or spicy salsa dancing into the wee hours of the morning, there are a few essentials every spring breaker should bring along. Here, we’ve rounded up the must-haves for your next trip, and cover everything you’ll need both in the air and on the shore.

Take-Off

After picking a destination, perhaps the most important decision you’ll have to make when planning a vacation (assuming you’re flying) is whether or not to check a bag. Word to the wise: don’t! Airlines lose luggage all the time. Do yourself a favor and avoid a potential headache by opting for a carry-on that can hold all the essentials. A cosmetic case will also come in handy not only while traveling, but also once you arrive. Keep things organized in your home away from home with a hanging bag or store small toiletries and accessories like sunblock and sunglasses in a waterproof case while you’re down at the pool or beach. If you do choose to carry-on though, just be sure to remember the 3-1-1 Liquids Rule!

High Tide

Another reason you should skip the big suitcase? Everything you really need for a tropical vacation is compact. You’ll practically be living in your bathing suit anyway, and small accessories like sunglasses and hats can either be worn while traveling or packed in a large tote that can double as both your personal item and beach bag!

Tiki Time

Of course some real clothing will be worn occasionally while on vacation, so opt for pieces that can transition from day to night. A romper is the perfect choice for her – breathable and easy to wear, it’s easy to throw on over a bikini or dress up with your favorite jewelry for an evening out. Guys should look for lightweight materials as well and have some fun with island prints and colors!

A lot of prep goes into going away, and the last thing you want to be thinking about at 35,000 feet is if your luggage is going to make it. Whether you choose to carry-on instead or not, don’t procrastinate: make a list of the items you’ll really need – chances are, they’ll all be able to fit in the overhead compartment!

Resort Wear: A Guide to Packing Light

Blog-Resort-Wear-FeaturedImage-020116

Close your eyes and picture yourself on vacation: white sand, crashing waves, the sun on your shoulder. Now imagine yourself packing for this vacation: a little less blissful, wouldn’t you say? Preparing to go away shouldn’t be stressful, but especially when you’re planning for kids, maybe a significant other, and yourself, it’s hard not to freak out a little. What’s more, with so many airlines charging fees for additional baggage, taking only what’s absolutely necessary is key. To take some of the worry out of packing, we’ve compiled the ShoeBuy Guide to Packing Light – so sit back, don’t panic, and soon enough, you’ll be sipping piña coladas poolside.

Shoes can become the bane of any packing existence. Start down the path of “but what if the weather is XYZ” or “but what if I want to wear this top with those pants” and you might as well pull out your credit card now to pay for the overweight luggage charges. In reality, the average adult going on vacation only needs to bring three pairs of shoes, maximum: one for everyday wear (think: slip-on or thong sandals for walking about the resort and to and from the pool/beach), one for slightly fancier occasions (think: boat shoes or wedge sandals for dinner out at a restaurant), and one for activities (think: footbed sandals like Birkenstock for a long walk or city excursion).

Clothing can also be tricky since many vacation destinations – resorts, cruise ships, etc. – enforce dress codes. Opt for pieces you can re-wear over a statement look that you might only put on once. Every woman knows the power of a wrinkle-resistant dress on vacation, so be sure to pack at least one that can easily go from day to night. Beach pants can work double duty when paired with a bold printed one-piece, while an airy caftan will make any lady feel like island royalty. Pack a straw tote as your carry-on with all the essentials so you’ll be prepared both in the sky and by the sea. For guys, breathable materials like linen and cotton are always good choices, as you’ll stay cool even while abiding by the collared shirt rule at dinner. A light t-shirt, hat, and sunglasses will keep you from getting too much sun during the day, and of course, don’t forget your swim trunks

Believe it or not, kids need even less when it comes to footwear on vacation: just one pair of active sandals for day, and slightly dressier (but still practical) shoes for night. And the same rules as mom and dad apply for clothing – breathable, no frill pieces that provide some protection from the sun will put everyone’s minds at ease.

Vacation should be a time of relaxation, so don’t let preparing for it stress you out. A little strategic packing can go a long way, so think about what you and your family really need and plan accordingly – and just think, less stuff in your luggage now means more room for souvenirs later!

Looking Forward: Shoe Trends for 2016

Year-End-Blog-123015

As much fun as it was looking back on all the great shoe styles from 2015, it’s even more exciting to take a peak at upcoming trends for the New Year! 2016 promises to take things up a notch when it comes to footwear, with interesting new designs and materials, bold colors and patterns, and edgier silhouettes coming our way. Here, our style experts weigh in on the hottest trends to keep an eye out for this year, and their top picks for each that are ready for the taking now on shoebuy.com!

Sneakers

We already saw an increase in the popularity of sneakers over the past few months, and this year, expect them to be all the rage. What’s new about the latest styles, however, are their innovative designs and use of materials like leather, suede, and canvas. Some retro, others almost futuristic, these aren’t your standard kicks. White sneakers in particular are positioned to thrive in 2016, so be sure to get your hands on a crisp pair.

Futuristic

And speaking of the future, another new trend to watch out for are ultramodern features and original shapes and colors adorning everything from slip-ons to stilettos. From studs and cutouts to stripes and sliver detailing, the shoe styles for 2016 may reach beyond this galaxy.

Pastels & Floral

If you’re feeling intimidated by these eclectic looks, rest assured, there are softer upcoming trends as well. Pastels are coming in hot and floral patterns are just as sweet, adding the perfect amount of pretty to your spring wardrobe.

Suede

Lush materials like suede always look good in clean, well-structured silhouettes. For boots, slightly understated styles that evoke a western vibe with a bit more simplicity than the classic cowboy boot steal the show, and fringe proves it’s here to stay. For flats, the pointer the toe the better, adding finesse especially when paired with a wooden or cork sole/heel – another hot trend for 2016.

Slides & Mules

Also carryovers from last year, slides and mules aren’t going anywhere soon. Up the ante with a bold print or killer heel, and look for distinguishing features such as studs, zippers, and buckles to really stand out.

Flatforms

While not a fit for every fashion fancy, there’s no denying this new trend is one to behold. Whether in low flatform or tall, a pair will add high fashion glamour to your spring/summer wardrobe – or better yet, try them out first on a winter getaway someplace warm.

Open-Toe Bootie

2016 confirms the bootie as a must-have for every season with the debut of an open toe. Easily dressed up or down, get ready to show off your pedicure all year long.
