Looking Forward: Shoe Trends for 2016

As much fun as it was looking back on all the great shoe styles from 2015, it’s even more exciting to take a peak at upcoming trends for the New Year! 2016 promises to take things up a notch when it comes to footwear, with interesting new designs and materials, bold colors and patterns, and edgier silhouettes coming our way. Here, our style experts weigh in on the hottest trends to keep an eye out for this year, and their top picks for each that are ready for the taking now on shoebuy.com!

We already saw an increase in the popularity of sneakers over the past few months, and this year, expect them to be all the rage. What’s new about the latest styles, however, are their innovative designs and use of materials like leather, suede, and canvas. Some retro, others almost futuristic, these aren’t your standard kicks. White sneakers in particular are positioned to thrive in 2016, so be sure to get your hands on a crisp pair.

And speaking of the future, another new trend to watch out for are ultramodern features and original shapes and colors adorning everything from slip-ons to stilettos. From studs and cutouts to stripes and sliver detailing, the shoe styles for 2016 may reach beyond this galaxy.

Pastels & Floral

If you’re feeling intimidated by these eclectic looks, rest assured, there are softer upcoming trends as well. Pastels are coming in hot and floral patterns are just as sweet, adding the perfect amount of pretty to your spring wardrobe.

Lush materials like suede always look good in clean, well-structured silhouettes. For boots, slightly understated styles that evoke a western vibe with a bit more simplicity than the classic cowboy boot steal the show, and fringe proves it’s here to stay. For flats, the pointer the toe the better, adding finesse especially when paired with a wooden or cork sole/heel – another hot trend for 2016.

Slides & Mules

Also carryovers from last year, slides and mules aren’t going anywhere soon. Up the ante with a bold print or killer heel, and look for distinguishing features such as studs, zippers, and buckles to really stand out.

While not a fit for every fashion fancy, there’s no denying this new trend is one to behold. Whether in low flatform or tall, a pair will add high fashion glamour to your spring/summer wardrobe – or better yet, try them out first on a winter getaway someplace warm.

Open-Toe Bootie

2016 confirms the bootie as a must-have for every season with the debut of an open toe. Easily dressed up or down, get ready to show off your pedicure all year long.

White on White: Labor Day Style

The dog days of summer are officially here, which means that Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching. We don’t know about you, but we always like to bid summer farewell with a white hot outfit! And while wearing white after Labor Day is certainly A-OK with us, Labor Day marks the last weekend where wearing white walks the line of being a fashion faux pas. So weather you’re heading to a nearby beach, getting on a plane for vacation, or just staying right at home for a backyard BBQ, be sure to have your favorite white looks ready this Labor Day.

A white-on-white look can be achieved by pairing a white dress with your favorite espadrilles (and a fedora would be a fun touch), pulling your comfiest white pants on with a bathing suit and white gladiator sandals, or simply kicking back in white sneakers, white jeans, and a white polo shirt. Whatever you decide, you’ll look summery and stylish as you celebrate the long weekend with friends and family. 2015 Back to School Trends: Middle School

It’s hard to believe that in just a few weeks, the school year will be starting back up again! We’re here to help your tweens and teens get excited for the year with a series of blog posts showcasing the hottest styles and trends this season. Today, we’re looking at top back to school picks in shoes, backpacks, and clothing that will surely make your little fashionista or trend-setter feel comfortable, fashionable, and prepared. For younger kiddos, take a look at our post highlighting elementary school trends, and check back later this month for the top styles for preschoolers and high school students!

From the bus stop to the lunch line, these shoe styles will ensure comfort while offering the perfect compliment to any outfit. For girls, we’re seeing metallics as a huge trend this season, whether it is in flats, lace up sneakers, or simple slip-ons. Neutral colors like grays, whites, navies and browns will be key this season as your middle-schooler begins to develop his or her sense of personal style — sticking with a neutral ensures that the shoes will match, no matter how bold the outfit choice may be!

For Girls: Sperry Top-Sider Angelfish | Keds Champion CVO Iterations | Skechers BOBS World Sparkle Plush | Hanna Andersson Disa | Steve Madden Troopas

For Boys: Converse Chuck Taylors Crocs Kid Classics | Florsheim Kearny Jr.’s | Timberland Earthkeepers | Skechers Equalizers Persistent

This year, we’re seeing some fun new styles for your student’s most important accessory. Print is definitely in, and there are tons of stylish designs to choose from ranging from geometric patterns to bright florals. With their unique look and multiple pockets for storage, flap-style backpacks are also a great option for students. A simple yet exciting option for younger students is a backpack that has a colorful contrast. If your child prefers the classics, try a solid-colored backpack in their favorite color – you can feel confident that this purchase will never go out of style!

As your kids ease back into the school year, styles that are comfortable and look great too will give them confidence from the very first day. For those early school weeks as we embrace the end of summer, casual t-shirts (stripes and florals are big this season) are a great way to transition. As we move into cooler temperatures, button down flannels and long-sleeve Ts in bright colors will continue to be top picks for school style. And though a heavy jacket (hopefully!) won’t be needed for a little longer, be sure to send them off with a weatherproof jacket that they’ll love wearing as we move in autumn, like either of the durable & cozy styles below.

O’Neill Palisade Flannel | Patagonia Capilene Long Sleeve | O’Neill Crewzer Crew | Icebreaker Tech Lotus Tee | Patagonia Light Hoodie | Patagonia Torrentshell Jacket

As you and your middle schoolers are crossing off all the items on your back to school shopping list, be sure to make back to school center one of your first stops!

How to Wear Your Tevas all Summer Long

No matter what your opinion about Teva sandals, there is no doubt that they are some of the hottest shoes for summer 2015. The popularity of this “it” shoe speaks to a much larger altheisure shoe trend, where fashion is not only crucial for warm-weather footwear, but comfort is key as well. Plus, at only $40 for a pair of Teva Originals, you can add multiple colors to your summer wardrobe if you wish. So don’t fight it! Our favorite active sandals are trending this summer and will have a place in your closet for many years to come. And if you’ve already jumped on the Teva bandwagon you’re in luck, because today we’re sharing ways to style these sandals for all your favorite summer activities.

1. At the Beach
Are you an active beach-goer that spends time splashing in the water, playing beach volleyball, or exploring cliffs and sand dunes?  Grab a pair of Tevas to protect your feet even in the hottest sand or on the sharpest rocks.

2. On the Trails
Let your feet breathe on the hiking trail or bike path this summer in a pair of Tevas. For hiking, pair your Tevas with your favorite cropped pants and airy tank. When taking your bike out for a spin, we love how Tevas look with comfy shorts, a short sundress, or even just your bathing suit!

3. Strolling the Streets
If your summer involves a lot of walking, there’s no better choice for your feet than Teva. Choose a pair in basic black or white to match with every warm-weather outfit, whether it’s your distressed jean shorts or a summer jacket and t-shirt.
4. For the Men
Rest assured, we didn’t forget you: Tevas make for a stylish summer go-to for both men & women! So, grab yourself a pair of Tevas for your best city and leisure looks, too.

Might be time to grab a new novel for the next afternoon in!
