Memorial Day Outfit Must-Haves

Memorial Day Must Haves

With Memorial Day just around the corner, we want to take a moment to remember all of the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country.  We are so grateful for their service and the freedoms they fought for.

We also hope everyone is planning to enjoy the day off with a little fun in the sun.  In proper Memorial Day fashion, we decided to share our favorite patriotic must-haves.  Whether you’re planning to lay on the beach with a good book, lounge poolside, or fire up the grill for a barbecue, what better way to ring in the official start of summer than with a stylish and festive outfit.

Stars, stripes, and red, white and blue are the clear go-to’s for the long weekend.  We love a patriotic-themed top paired with solid colored shorts as the basis of your holiday outfit.  Once you’ve got those pieces in your closet, add a little extra flare with fun accessories. This holiday is the perfect excuse to show off your patriotism with star-spangled canvas shoes and tote bags for your Memorial Day celebrations.  Shop these must-haves below!

How To: Choose a Canvas Sneaker

040215-Canvas-Shoes-BLOG-7

Now that spring has begun, it’s time to finally start transitioning our closet for the warmer months. In other words, get ready to ditch the now-tired winter coat and heavy-duty boots (WOOHOO!). Our go-to transitional season essential is the canvas sneaker. Perfectly paired with a light sweater and your favorite jeans or leggings, you’ll be set for whatever the spring adventures are on your agenda. This classic shoe is here to stay in the traditional sneaker style, but this season, skimmers, slip-ins and really fun patterns will give you endless options to choose from.

With so many great styles for spring, here are a few things to keep in mind when you’re shopping for this versatile sneaker:

  • Color, Color, Color. From pastels to deeper hues, if you are looking for a certain color, you’ll find it this season. Try the line up from Victoria for a range of choices.
  • Play with Pattern. While you can never go wrong with solid-color canvas, now is a great time to check out the playful options, like this whimsical Keds style.
  • Retro has Never Looked Better. From Keds and Tretorn to Sperry Top-Sider and Vans, many tried-and-true brands are serving up fresh options that will you make you wish you had held onto your old favorites.

Check out a few of our favorites:

  • Brighten up your neutral outfit with spring pastels from Converse. No wardrobe is really complete without a pair.
  • For a woman on-the-go, slip into the Keds Teacup CVO Canvas. Bonus: polka-dot laces!
  • Put some prep in your step! We love these classic Lacoste sneakers.
  • Take it back (in style) with these original Superga lace-ups.

NOW TRENDING: Athleisure

Blog-Featured-Image-Athleisure-3

If you haven’t heard of the term “athleisure” you’re probably not alone. But if you’ve ever worn your favorite yoga or workout-wear with no gym in sight, you may be rocking this look already. So what exactly is athleisure? The trend started to gain popularity last year and it isn’t losing any momentum yet. What may have started off with yoga pants becoming part of many women’s go-to casual wardrobes, it now includes everything from patterned yoga leggings and wrap sweaters to pretty much any chic sportswear that you’d opt to wear beyond the gym.

Comfort is certainly a main factor driving this trend. Well-made, well-fitting sportswear can be very flattering, and also be easily paired with other items from your closet to create a range of casual outfits. While we’ll always see the traditional yoga pants and tank tops, we’re also seeing lots of great street style too, like leggings paired with a comfy sweater or tunic and a fab pair of booties.

When to Wear it?
If you’re going from one end of the day where you might be up early, packing lunches and getting the kids off to school, then trying to squeeze in a few hours of work from your home office before meeting a friend for a quick coffee or to run an errand, this look can take you through the day. With the right pieces, you can be ready for (nearly) anything on the weekend: brunch, shopping, errands, visiting family and friends…you get the idea. That said, you’ll have to use your judgment on if you can pull it off for work.

How to Wear it?
Casual clothing that feels put-together is always in style. These days, yoga clothing in particular goes beyond the traditional yoga pants with leggings, wrap tops and sweaters, so there are lots of options from brands like Lucy and Prana to try. Plus, with details  from contoured stitching and asymmetrical silhouettes to bright colors and patterns, there are plenty of ways to wear this trend. (Though don’t get us wrong, we think every woman should have a go-to pair of yoga pants in her closet, too.) Really, great athleisure pieces will pair well with other clothes in your wardrobe. With the right accessories like a scarf or a fun statement necklace, you can really elevate the look and you’ll feel like you have a finished outfit, whether or not the gym is on your agenda for the day.

Building the Look
A great go-anywhere look can be as simple as pairing yoga capris or leggings with a tunic or long oxford, finished off with the right touches and you can go from errands to meeting up with friends. For this look, we like the Lucy Hatha Capri Legging for a great fitting pant, topped with the lightweight, organic cotton Prana Leta Tunic. Add spring in your step with the Earthies Manza for heel to toe support and finish the look with a handmade Henri Lou leather and metal bracelet.

Play with Color and Pattern
You can also build a colorful outfit with a few easy pieces. Try mixing patterned bottoms like the Prana Maison Knicker with a solid-color, classic silhouette on top, like the Royal Robbins Breeze Thru. Finish off with a great flat – we love the Merrell Mimix Haze for spring – to bring together a minimalist look with just the right amount of detail and personality.
