Après Ski Essentials

Blog-Apres-Ski-Featrued-021216-v2

Whether you’ve just retired from a long day of racing your friends down the slopes or choose to hang out on the mountain sans skis and snowboard, ShoeBuy has all the Après Ski must-haves for looking chic and staying warm.

For Her

Outerwear: You really can’t get by without having a good, warm coat. Choose one that has fun details, a flattering cut, and great color. A warm puffy vest is also an option for the days above freezing. Layer it over a thick sweatshirt or sweater to show off some cool sleeves! Cozy Sweaters: A great winter sweater is also a ski staple. A crew neck with a quirky animal is lighthearted and serves as a great talking point. A knit poncho looks stellar with skinny jeans or leggings, and is easy to throw on over any top.

Black leggings are always a smart choice, but why not switch it up and sport a pair that has a little more pizazz? Stark White snow pants are perfect to transition from skiing to lounging while multicolored leggings in muted tones provide an elevated look without being too distracting. Layer a skirt over your leggings for a fun look that gives extra warmth and style.

Beanies are the perfect snow bunny accessory. Typically at lower price points, you can grab a different hat for all your go-to winter outfits. And remember, it may be cold out but the sun is still glaring throughout the winter, so grab a pair of sunnies to protect your eyes and make any look more fashion-forward. Gloves and arm warmers are great additions that can keep your outfit neutral, or add some pop! More winter accessories here.

Snow boots come in such a variety of styles now, with varying heights, materials, and colors. Mix and match your favorite winter socks with your boots for endless possibilities!

For Him

Outerwear: A vintage inspired vest is a perfect, easy layer that screams Après ski a la 1970s. You can’t go wrong with a classic black puffer coat either. Sweaters: Rich textures and soft neutrals make these sweaters ideal for relaxing with friends by the fire.

Two Toned snow pants are unexpected and modern. Dodge snowballs in style.

Boots: Waterproof duck boots will carry you through all sorts of slush you may encounter. A pair of sturdy snow boots with a heavy duty outsole prepare you for the iciest terrain.

A rugged hat and tartan scarf are classic investment pieces to wear every season. They are both masculine, and practical. Sporty beanies and cold-weather socks come in fun colors and patterns, so grab a bunch for a more youthful look.

A waterproof bag will take you far. Choose a bright color so it stands out in the snow! Roll up a blanket and bring it to the lodge to snuggle by the fire. Bringing the baby to the mountain? Try an adorable puffer onesie! A sophisticated print ensures maximum cuteness.

And for those of you looking for the toughest performance gear for the slopes, we’ve got you covered there too. A pair of compression tights or leggings increase circulation and reduces muscle damage and fatigue. Padded socks provide extra protection, and this pair has high density cushioning, for comfort around the entire foot and lower leg. A warm beanie built for winter sports is perfect for underneath your helmet. A form fitting base layer is essential to retain body heat, but isn’t going to be too stuffy.

Valentine’s Day Guide: What to Wear and Share

Blog-VDay-Featured-1

Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate love: love for a significant other, love for your family, and love for your friends. So no matter whom you’re celebrating with, have a little fun and dress up for the occasion!

For a fun night celebrating with the girls, you can be comfy and cute with a Henley dress paired with low-heel booties. Add a red bag for a festive punch.

Celebrate with the guys with a casual outfit that shows you have your own style and are down for a good time.

This cozy Woolrich sweater is the perfect choice for a hiking date. Pair it with skinny jeans, a warm beanie, and boots for a cute and practical look.

Warm red layers show you’re thoughtful and put effort in for V-day (major points). Neutral accessories and jeans make the outfit timelessly trendy and wearable for an outdoor adventure.

You just can’t go wrong with a classic LBD. Add this great Nina clutch and strappy heels and you’re sure to feel confident and ready for a romantic evening.

This Pendleton button-up has a little more flair than the standard solid colored options. The subtle red hue feels right for the holiday, but not over-the-top. A solid colored scarf and polished Red Wings elevate this look for a date to remember.

So now that you know what you’re wearing, let’s focus on what you’re giving. We’ve got everything you need to make sure your loved ones are taken care of this Valentine’s Day.

A classic leather wallet is always a great gift for your guy, especially because he’s probably used his old one to death. A belt is also a staple that gives the perfect finishing touch to any look.  Or, keep him warm with a thick pullover or durable slippers. Spring is still a long way off so he’ll be sure to get a lot of wear out of them (and think of you every time).

Jewelry shows you care because it can be so personalized. Heart shapes clearly say “love,” but does she prefer silver or gold? Jewel encrusted? We’ve got you covered. This frosted pearl bracelet has personality and beautiful detail, so it’s perfect for special occasions all year round. You can’t go wrong with some snuggly layers either. These pullovers work great in and out of the house, so she’ll be warm and toasty wherever she goes.

However you decide to celebrate Valentine’s Day, we know you’ll be well-dressed and well-prepared. And hey, who says you can’t get something for yourself too?

Sweet 16: Shoes You’ll Want To Wear This Year

Blog-16for16-Featured-Image-v2

16 is THE number this year. Of course, it’s 2016, but did you know it’s also ShoeBuy’s 16th birthday?! Our friends at The Gloss put together a hilarious article titled, Every Awkward Shoe You Wore in the 2000s, that is sure to get a groan out of every shoe maven, but hey, we’re all for taking fashion risks!

The good news is Sweet (two-thousand and) Sixteen is shaping up to be an awesome year as far as footwear is concerned. We’ve already shared our roundup of trends to keep an eye out for, and now we’re giving you the lowdown on the top 16 styles that you’ll be proud to wear all the way into the next decade – we promise*!

Why it’s hot?

Because booties are arguably the most versatile pair of shoes in your closet right now. And coming soon: pairs with perforation to give your spring wardrobe a fresh kick.

Why it’s hot?

Because while flip-flops may not be office-appropriate during the summer, city sandals go from work to play without missing a step (rooftop cocktails, anyone?).

Why it’s hot?

Because metallic is like the icy senior girl you adored as a freshman back in high school – it’s just so, cool.

Why it’s hot?

Because cage/lace-up sandals are a sassy (and supportive!) choice for summer.

Why it’s hot?

Because we all loved our slides and mules during the fall, and now we can wear them throughout the warmer months, too!

Why it’s hot?

Because espadrilles of both the flat and wedge varieties are the perfect way to add some Spanish flare to any outfit. Can we get an “olé?”

Why it’s hot?

Because footbed sandals aren’t only trendy, they’re actually good for your foot health.

Why it’s hot?

Because torrential days are already huge bummers – might as well look cute in a great pair of rain boots, right?

Why it’s hot?

Because stripes are IN, especially when they’re ON your feet.

Why it’s hot?

Because black and white is a classic combination with endless possibilities.

Why it’s hot?

Because a floral pattern is practically wearable art. And because here in New England, we may not see real flowers until June.

Why it’s hot?

Because metallic with a preppy twist is even better.

Why it’s hot?

Because the icy senior girl your mom adored back in the 70s would have worn these. That’s like, 45 years of cool.

Why it’s hot?

Because the only thing better than a bootie, is an open toe bootie you can wear All. Year. Long.

Why it’s hot?

Because snazzy running shoes aren’t just for your marathon-fanatic friend anymore – even the serious athletic brands are upping the fashion-ante, giving you one less excuse to skip out on that jog.

Why it’s hot?

Because canvas sneakers aren’t just for the playground. Listen to your five-year-old self and grab a pair.

*To the best of our predictive abilities, we believe these shoes will still be cool in 2026.

Looking Forward: Shoe Trends for 2016

Year-End-Blog-123015

As much fun as it was looking back on all the great shoe styles from 2015, it’s even more exciting to take a peak at upcoming trends for the New Year! 2016 promises to take things up a notch when it comes to footwear, with interesting new designs and materials, bold colors and patterns, and edgier silhouettes coming our way. Here, our style experts weigh in on the hottest trends to keep an eye out for this year, and their top picks for each that are ready for the taking now on shoebuy.com!

Sneakers

We already saw an increase in the popularity of sneakers over the past few months, and this year, expect them to be all the rage. What’s new about the latest styles, however, are their innovative designs and use of materials like leather, suede, and canvas. Some retro, others almost futuristic, these aren’t your standard kicks. White sneakers in particular are positioned to thrive in 2016, so be sure to get your hands on a crisp pair.

Futuristic

And speaking of the future, another new trend to watch out for are ultramodern features and original shapes and colors adorning everything from slip-ons to stilettos. From studs and cutouts to stripes and sliver detailing, the shoe styles for 2016 may reach beyond this galaxy.

Pastels & Floral

If you’re feeling intimidated by these eclectic looks, rest assured, there are softer upcoming trends as well. Pastels are coming in hot and floral patterns are just as sweet, adding the perfect amount of pretty to your spring wardrobe.

Suede

Lush materials like suede always look good in clean, well-structured silhouettes. For boots, slightly understated styles that evoke a western vibe with a bit more simplicity than the classic cowboy boot steal the show, and fringe proves it’s here to stay. For flats, the pointer the toe the better, adding finesse especially when paired with a wooden or cork sole/heel – another hot trend for 2016.

Slides & Mules

Also carryovers from last year, slides and mules aren’t going anywhere soon. Up the ante with a bold print or killer heel, and look for distinguishing features such as studs, zippers, and buckles to really stand out.

Flatforms

While not a fit for every fashion fancy, there’s no denying this new trend is one to behold. Whether in low flatform or tall, a pair will add high fashion glamour to your spring/summer wardrobe – or better yet, try them out first on a winter getaway someplace warm.

Open-Toe Bootie

2016 confirms the bootie as a must-have for every season with the debut of an open toe. Easily dressed up or down, get ready to show off your pedicure all year long.

6 Splurge-Worthy Gift Ideas for Him & Her

Blog-Featured-Image-Gift-Guide-Splurge-120115

We all have that special someone on our holiday shopping list – whether it’s a significant other, best friend, or a close family member. And for this person, giving an awesome present is even more exciting than getting one. So if you’re looking to splurge a little this season, check out these ideas that are sure to get a gasp on Christmas morning. And remember, we’ve put together gift guides for every budget that are full of ideas that they’re bound to love!

1. BOOTS

You just can’t go wrong with a pair of well-made boots. In fact, they’re scientifically proven to never go out of style (okay, we may be using the term “scientifically” loosely here, but we believe it!). Whether for fashion or function, leather boots are a must-have in every closet, so spruce up theirs with a luxurious pair that promises to last.

2. WINTER JACKET

Understandably, a lot of us find ourselves skipping out on that amazing parka that may last a lifetime and opting for a less expensive coat that needs replacing every season, so this year, consider giving them the gift of a warm investment. Look for classic silhouettes in neutral tones that they’ll never get bored of – a great winter jacket is the gift that keeps on giving year after year.

3. BLING

Show them just how special they are to you with a little extra something that sparkles. As the saying goes, good things come in small packages, and they won’t be able to contain their excitement as they tear this one open.

4. FRESH KICKS

We’re not playing around here; a cool pair of sneakers may just be the most coveted present under the tree. So run, don’t walk, to get some for the flyest on your list. This year, materials like suede and leather are all the rage, quite possibly making their feet the most fashionable part of an ensemble.

5. BAG

Whether for work or play, a nice bag makes travel or an everyday commute easier, not to mention, more fashionable. For the trendsetter, spring for a hot style – like canvas or fringe – or keep it classic with an essential leather tote or duffel.

6. House Warmers

Don’t see something that quite fits? A thoughtful gift for the home will help to make memories for holidays and years to come, and is a great option for the couples on your list.

Keep an eye out for more great gift ideas throughout the month of December!

How To: Clean Sheepskin Boots

Blog-Sheepskin-Featured-Image-2-111615

A pair of sheepskin boots can be your best friend in the winter; they’re warm and never seem to go out of style. Another great feature is that a well-made pair should give you several seasons of wear, as long as you properly care for them. Whether you’re looking to give an old pair a second life or hoping for a new set under the tree this year, here’s are some tips to take care of your boots so they stay looking as good as they feel.

OUR FAVORITES:

Of course, prior to any kind of treatment, you’ll want to read the manufacturer’s care instructions for your particular pair of boots, as well as the directions for whichever products you’re planning to use.

PROTECT:

      1. Before wearing your boots, prevent staining by first treating them with a sheepskin protector, like the UGG® Stain and Water Repellant.
      1. Be sure your boots are dry and wipe off any residue before applying. Take them outside (or to a well-ventilated area) and spray the protector evenly over sheepskin with until boot is wet, but not soaked.
      1. Let your boots dry out of direct sunlight in in a cool, ventilated space for 24 hours.
      1. Use a suede brush (often included in a sheepskin care kit) and lightly brush the nap in one direction.

 RESTORE:

      1. Lightly dampen your boots with clean water and a sponge. Apply a small amount of conditioner, such as the UGG® Cleaner and Conditioner, to the wet sponge. Gently scrub the surface of your boot. When finished, use a clean, damp sponge to remove excess residue.
      1. To speed up the drying process and help your boots maintain their shape, stuff with paper, then allow them to dry naturally for at least 24 hours in a cool, ventilated space. Avoid direct sunlight or heat.
      1. Now that your boots are nice and clean, this is a great time to protect them from future wear and tear by treating them with a sheepskin protector.

FRESHEN:

      1. Eliminate odor by spraying the inside of each boot with a sheepskin freshener, also often included in a sheepskin care kit.
      1. Let boots dry naturally for at least 24 hours in a cool, ventilated space. Avoid direct sunlight or heat.
      1. Once dry, lightly brush in same direction to ensure your boots look their best.

OTHER CARE TIPS:

• NEVER put your boots in the washing machine or dryer
• DON’T take them to the dry cleaner
• BE SURE to take the same kind of care of other garments and accessories made with sheepskin or shearling, like bags and hats!

Featured Products: UGG HEritage Up Flat Hat w/Pom | Scully Garment Bag Antique Lambskin 603 | Dije California Trooper Hat

Try to make this cleaning regimen a regular habit, and remember to wipe off daily dirt, especially during the winter months to remove snow that may have been treated with salt. Don’t be daunted; this may sound time-consuming, but taking care of your boots is actually pretty quick to do with the right tools on hand, and so well worth it in the long run.

How To: Stay Warm No Matter How Cold It Gets

Blog-Winter-Outerwear-3

Now that the last tricksters have treated and the clocks have turned back, it’s officially time to start thinking winter. While there’s still plenty of time between now and December 21st, once the days start to get shorter, they become cooler, too. As we finish out fall and head into winter, chances are your choice in outerwear will also begin to change. One day you may just need an extra fleece layer under your favorite vest or windbreaker to bring it to that next level of warmth, and the next, an all out parka to block out whipping wind and snow.

With that in mind, we give you: The ShoeBuy Cold-O-Meter. Depending on your needs this fall and winter, our experts have hand-selected the outerwear that will keep you at the perfect temperature until spring.

Chilly:

Starting to notice a little nip in the air? A fleece provides enough warmth so you’ll be comfortable without overheating.

Featured Products: Columbia Harborside Fleece Pullover | Mountain Hardwear Strecker Jacket | Patagonia R2 Jacket 25138 | The North Face Denali Jacket | The North Face Haldee Raschel Parka

Cold:

As the days get shorter and the nights grow longer, grab a thicker, insulating coat like one of these down-filled, thermal-lined, or wool styles.

Featured Products: Carhatt Duck Active Thermal Lined Jacket J131 | Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer Hooded Down Jacket | Nau Intersect Utility Down Sweater | The North Face Thermoball Full Zip Jacket 2015 | Woolrich Mill Wool Sherpa Jacket

Really Cold:

If snow or any other wintery precipitation is in the forecast, you’ll want a waterproof jacket to keep warm and dry.

Featured Products: Columbia Lhotse Interchange Jacket | Woolrich Arctic Parka | Patagonia Stormdrift Parka

Freezing:

For the days when summer seems but a distant memory, turn the heat up with an ultra-cozy parka.

Featured Products: The North Face Triple C Parka II | Pajar Brooklyn Jacket | Patagonia Thunder Cloud Down Parka | Pajar Eagle Jacket

Planning on hitting the slopes? Gear up with the right outerwear to ensure hours of winter fun.
